Lab Testing: Personalized Data to Guide Your Healing

In naturopathic care, we don’t guess — we test. Lab testing helps us understand your unique body so we can build treatment plans based on real data, not assumptions. This speeds up healing and targets what truly needs support. Whether you’re struggling with chronic skin issues, digestive symptoms, fatigue, or hormonal imbalances, testing brings clarity and precision to your care.

Two Main Types of Testing I Use:

Serum (Blood) Testing

  • Serum blood tests provide valuable insight into nutrient status, hormone levels, metabolic function, and markers of inflammation. They are useful for evaluating concerns such as fatigue, digestive imbalances, hormonal changes, and skin conditions.

  • These tests are typically performed at a licensed laboratory and results are interpreted alongside your health history and clinical presentation to guide personalized nutrition, lifestyle, and supplement recommendations.

  • Serum blood tests do not diagnose disease on their own but are an important tool in a comprehensive naturopathic assessment.

Blood testing can be performed for determining:

  • Hormones (thyroid, cortisol, sex hormones)

  • Nutrient levels (B12, iron, vitamin D, magnesium)

  • Immune function (inflammation, autoantibodies)

  • Organ health (liver, kidneys)

  • Metabolism (blood sugar, lipids)

How it works:

  • You’ll receive a lab requisition during or after your initial visit

  • Book your blood draw appointment at LifeLabs (or local center) — booking early is recommended

  • Results are securely sent to me

  • We review your results together at your next follow-up and adjust your care plan accordingly

An initial naturopathic consultation is required to determine which blood tests may be appropriate for your individual concerns. Book an Initial Naturopathic Consultation HERE.

Functional Lab Testing

These advanced home kits reveal how your body functions beneath the surface, giving us deeper insights beyond standard labs.

Examples include:

  • GI-MAP (Diagnostic Solutions Lab): The GI-MAP is an advanced stool test that assesses digestive function, gut microbiome balance, and markers of intestinal inflammation and permeability. It uses DNA-based technology to identify bacteria, parasites, viruses, and yeast that may influence digestive health, immune regulation, skin conditions, and hormone metabolism.

    • This test also evaluates digestive markers such as pancreatic enzyme output, immune activity in the gut, and indicators of intestinal barrier integrity. Imbalances in these areas may contribute to symptoms including bloating, irregular stools, food sensitivities, inflammatory skin concerns, fatigue, and hormone-related symptoms.

    • The GI-MAP is a non-invasive, at-home stool test. Results are reviewed in the context of your health history and clinical presentation to guide individualized nutrition, lifestyle, and supplement strategies.

    • The GI-MAP does not diagnose disease and is used as part of a comprehensive naturopathic assessment.

      • Booking: Functional laboratory testing is considered on an individual basis. An initial naturopathic consultation is required to determine whether the GI-MAP is appropriate for your concerns.

  • Organic Acids Test (OAT, Mosaic Diagnostics): The Organic Acids Test (OAT) is a comprehensive urine test that offers insight into key metabolic patterns influencing skin health, digestion, energy production, and hormone balance.

    • This test evaluates organic acid markers related to gut microbial balance, nutrient status, detoxification pathways, and cellular energy metabolism. When these systems are under strain, subtle imbalances may contribute to concerns such as persistent skin conditions, digestive symptoms, fatigue, mood changes, or hormonal dysregulation.

    • The OAT is a non-invasive, at-home urine test. Results are interpreted alongside your health history and clinical presentation to help guide individualized nutrition, lifestyle, and supplement recommendations.

    • The Organic Acids Test does not diagnose disease and is used as part of a comprehensive naturopathic assessment.

      • Booking: Functional laboratory testing is considered on an individual basis. An initial naturopathic consultation is required to determine whether the Organic Acids Test is appropriate for your concerns.

  • DUTCH Test (Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones): The DUTCH (Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones) test provides a detailed assessment of hormone metabolism, including estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, and melatonin. It also evaluates how your body processes and clears hormones, which can impact skin health, energy levels, mood, and digestive function.

    • This test is especially useful for understanding hormone patterns that may contribute to acne, irregular cycles, menopausal symptoms, fatigue, or digestive imbalances. It helps guide personalized strategies to support hormone balance through nutrition, lifestyle, and targeted supplementation.

    • The DUTCH test is a simple, at-home urine collection. Results are interpreted alongside your health history, symptoms, and other clinical findings to inform individualized care.

    • The DUTCH test does not diagnose disease and is used as part of a comprehensive naturopathic assessment.

      • Booking: Functional laboratory testing is considered on an individual basis. An initial naturopathic consultation is required to determine whether the DUTCH test is appropriate for your concerns.

  • You collect samples at home and send them back with prepaid shipping labels

  • Results usually come back in 2–3 weeks

Why Lab Interpretation Matters

By combining lab results with your symptoms, we can:

  • Pinpoint root causes more accurately

  • Prioritize treatments for faster progress

  • Reduce guesswork and trial-and-error

  • Track your healing over time

  • This makes your care smarter, more effective, and sustainable.

Getting Started

Lab testing is part of your Phase 1 plan and introduced during your initial visit. If recommended, you’ll receive:

  • Lab requisitions (for serum tests)

  • Detailed kit instructions (for home testing)

  • Full review and explanation at your next appointment

Important Notes

  • Functional lab kits require upfront payment.

  • Lab fees vary by test, and patients are responsible for the requisition fee plus an additional 5% to cover credit card and processing fees.

  • All labs and visits are billed individually, with itemized receipts provided for insurance claims.

  • Typical turnaround time for functional lab results is 3–4 weeks from shipment to review.
